Regina
is the beautiful capital of Saskatchewan, nestled in the rolling
hills of prairie farm country. With a population just short of
200,000 people, this city is hovering at just the right size,
big enough to be a real city, but not so large as to suffer from
the problems of crime, crowding and decaying inner cities that
metropolises of our day often endure.
When most people hear of the prairies, they often think flat,
and no scenery. In Regina, this couldn't be farther from the truth.
The entire city often resembles a huge park, due to more than
50,000 hand planted elm trees, and downtown, the largest urban
park in North America is to be found around Wascana Lake and creek.
The University of Regina recently celebrated 25 years of its degree-granting
status. With just under 12,000 students, the modest-sized campus
is located on the edge of Wascana Lake. The campus is relatively
small compared to larger schools, but is still nicely spread out
with lots of trees and grass for students and faculty to enjoy.
The campus has already started benefiting from the brand new Petroleum
Technology Research Centre (PTRC) and Information Technology research
park.
